Have you suddenly found yourself out of work and needing a job fast? With so many finding themselves in this position as a result of COVID-19 we thought we’d share our top tips for finding your next job – fast.
1. Get organised
This relatively short-term hiccup is certainly causing plenty of problems, but there are sectors in the market that are still showing steady growth, and that will continue. These areas include human services, aged care, disability services, accounting, legal services and construction.
Some sectors may be battered now, but still have a strong future ahead of them. Getting organised now will help you to be in front when the rebound happens.
For this reason, we recommend establishing a “job search system”. This includes researching the job market sectors that have been showing growth, potential employers and the right recruiters you need to connect with.
2. Be more visible
Now is the time to spring (or should we say autumn!) clean your LinkedIn profile. While you do, remember that it serves two important purposes – visibility and validation. Take the time to update your skills and experience as well as check the groups and companies (potential employers!) that you’re following.
Improve your ranking and search results by posting new content or commenting on something you read – not just ‘liking’ a post.
3. Be interview-ready
Interviews and phone screenings can happen quickly. Practice your interview techniques and work out your responses to behavioural questions now, so you are more confident and relaxed for that initial phone screening call, group interview, assessment centre or Zoom interview.
4. Try something new
For many of us, now is a time to explore a job that might be something brand new. It may not appear your perfect role, employer or industry or is it? You’ll never know if you don’t explore all your options.
These challenging times present a great opportunity to try something out that you have thought about or someone may have suggested to you. You have nothing at all to lose by broadening your job search!
